WHY DO WE HAVE A DRESS CODE?
Our dance dress code is more than just attire, it’s a key element in the language of movement. Our carefully curated dress code ensures that dancers feel
comfortable, confident and ready to take on the dance floor.
UNITY.
Just like sports teams, when dancers are in matching items it makes them feel like part of a group or special club. They feel a stronger sense of belonging, community, and camaraderie in class. It creates a bond between the dancers.

CONFIDENCE.
Similar to costumes for the recital, the right outfit makes a dancer feel more confident in class. Simply putting on proper dance attire boosts the dancer’s self-esteem.

RESPECT.
Part of being in a dance class is respecting the art form and learning to follow instructions.

FOCUS.
Having all dancers in a consistent look helps their concentration and lessens distraction. When a student puts on their outfit, it puts them in the frame of mind for dance class.

POSTURE.
The dress code is designed for teachers to see the movement and lines of the dancers. In order to provide proper corrections, we must be able to see body alignment.

Tradition in any art form is important to follow. Did you know in ballet that tights and leotards date back 100’s of years?

Dress Code
Purchase your dress code items at the studio before your class begins.
Mini
Tiny Tots (ages 3-4) & Tiny Dancer (ages 2.5-3)
- Comfortable and moveable clothing
- Ballet shoes or socks
Pre Ballet (ages 5-6)
- Leotard must be purchased at Dovetail
- Girls: pink tights, white leotard, ballet shoes (NO SKIRTS)
- Boys: white shirt, black tights, ballet shoes
Pre Musical Theater/Tap (ages 5-6)
- Leotard must be purchased at Dovetail
- Girls: black leotard, black tights, tap shoes + jazz shoes
- Boys: black leggings or shorts, white shirt, tap shoes + jazz shoes
Pre Hip Hop (ages 5-6)
- Comfortable, moveable clothing
- Clean gym shoes
Pre Ballet/Tap Ballet Combo (ages 5-6)
- Leotard MUST be purchased at Dovetail
- Girls: pink tights, white leotard, ballet and tap shoes (NO SKIRTS)
- Boys: white shirt, black tights, ballet and tap shoes
Youth
Ballet (ages 7-10)
- Leotard must be purchased at Dovetail
- Girls: All levels wear black leotards. All levels wear pink tights, ballet shoes (NO SKIRTS)
- Boys: white t-shirt, black tights or leggings, black ballet shoes
Hip Hop (ages 8+)
- Comfortable, moveable clothing & clean gym shoes
Musical Theatre (ages 7+)
- Leotard must be purchased at Dovetail
- Girls: black tank leotard, black tights, black jazz shoes
- Boys: white shirt, black leggings, black jazz shoes
Contemporary (Ages 7+)
- Leotard must be purchased at Dovetail
- Girls: black tank leotard, black tights and barefoot
- Boys: white shirt, black leggings and barefoot
Contemporary/ Broadway Jazz Combo (ages 7-10)
- Leotard MUST be purchased at Dovetail
- Girls: black tank leotard, black convertible tights, black jazz shoes
- Boys: white t-shirt, black leggings, black jazz shoes
Adult/ Teen
(Ages 12+)
- Comfortable, moveable clothes
- Correct shoes for each class
